The crossing
Indy DPW builds a bridge over the White River between Washington Street and Oliver Street. The deck carries two vehicular lanes, one in each direction, and the multi-use path of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The project number is ST-31-059.
The Board of Public Works named the structure the Greenlawn Memorial Bridge on 22 July 2026. The project's Community Advisory Group chose the name to remember people buried in the city's first public cemetery. DPW's archaeology consultant Stantec excavated 1,709 grave shafts in the city right of way between November 2024 and October 2025. Reinterment plans are in development.
DPW lists the bridge and the trail extension for an early 2027 opening. Construction on the west-side infrastructure started in early 2024.
The west-side grid a coach uses
DPW reports substantial completion on the west side. Innovator Way, previously Henry Street, runs from Harding Street to the relocated South White River Parkway. The same street name now covers the section that links the bridge to Kentucky Avenue. Holly Avenue connects Oliver Street to Innovator Way. The D Loop runs from Washington Street to South White River Parkway. The relocated parkway meets the D Loop and Oliver Street at Drover Street.
No published document sets a coach staging area, a loading zone or an event-day traffic plan for the district. DPW keeps the scope, the open-house documents and the weekly construction updates on the project page at indy.gov/activity/white-river-innovation-district. Ask DPW at dpw.communications@indy.gov for the coach plan before contracting a shuttle through the corridor.
What the west bank holds
Elanco opened its headquarters on the former GM stamping plant site in October 2025. The OneHealth Innovation District is developing a research campus with Purdue University. West-side addresses for a group itinerary include the Biltwell Event Center at 950 South White River Parkway West Drive and the Indianapolis Zoo at 1200 West Washington Street. White River State Park carries its own address at 801 West Washington Street.
The park opens daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and holds seven attractions: the Indianapolis Zoo, Victory Field, the IMAX Theater, the Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Eiteljorg Museum and the Everwise Amphitheater.
Ask Elanco, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and Purdue University which rooms and meeting spaces on the west bank become bookable around the opening.
Load-in at the downtown end
The Indiana Convention Center's facility guide reports 49 docks and seven drive-in ramps at the rear of the exhibit halls. The center's dock sits on the west side of the building. Lucas Oil Stadium carries an indoor 30,000-square-foot loading dock, eleven indoor docks and two vehicle ramps to the event level.
Pedestrian skywalks connect 4,717 of downtown's 7,200 hotel rooms, per the same guide. The guide counts 4,721 hotel rooms connected to the center and 7,175 rooms inside a six-block radius. The venue footer carries 4,700 of 7,100. Visit Indy counts 12 hotels and 5,200 rooms in its connected package. Each figure carries its own publisher and its own total.
Route the coach plan through the west-side grid to the exhibit-hall apron on the east side. A delegation that stays downtown walks the skywalk network to the hall.
Block the corridor on verified terms
Two dates set the 2027 booking window. The deck opens in early 2027. The west-side street grid is substantially complete today.
Ask DPW for the opening day inside early 2027, the coach staging plan and the pedestrian plan for event days. Ask the west-bank owners for the meeting space that comes bookable with the opening.
