Indianapolis Takes a 450-Athlete Championship in a 12-Day Gap

The Checkered Flag Championship holds Exhibit Hall A for one Saturday. Indianapolis publishes 4,700 skywalk rooms and 200 walkable restaurants.

The booking

Victory Athletics Spirit’s Checkered Flag Championship runs one day at the Indiana Convention Center. The date is Saturday, 9 January 2027. The venue forecasts 450 attendees and assigns Exhibit Hall A.

The organiser’s 2026-2027 event list names the championship, and its event page carries the same date with a note that more information is coming.

What the meetings desk can hold

Exhibit Hall A carries 211 ten-foot booths, 2,370 banquet seats and 4,300 theatre-style seats across 44,400 square feet. A 450 forecast fills 10.5 percent of the theatre figure.

The floor carries the load. The venue’s Facility Guide designs Halls A, B and C for 500 pounds per square foot.

The setup is one floor for one day. The organiser’s rules set a floor-based competition with cheer teams of no fewer than five members and dance teams of no fewer than four, on 2 minute 30 second limits for cheer, dance and rec and club divisions.

The venue assigns Exhibit Hall A for the competition. The same calendar carries the Whitetail Film Tour at 300 in Wabash Ballroom 1-2 on 9 January, so two groups share the building that Saturday and one hotel block can serve both.

Who competes

The organiser publishes the division list: allstar elite, allstar prep, allstar novice, allstar cheer exhibition, rec traditional and performance, cheer abilities, school cheer, game day, IASF, college, individuals, duos, trios and group stunt, plus allstar dance in jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical, dance prep, dance novice, dance exhibition, dance abilities and school dance.

Two published rules widen the entry path. Participating teams do not need a sanction from a governing body or an affiliation with a national cheer organisation. The novice, prep and exhibition classes sit beside the elite divisions.

The athletes are minors. Every gym signs a waiver and minor release form per athlete for each competition, and any adult of 18 or older who enters the floor or the warm-up area needs a current background check.

The organiser and the venue publish no audience breakdown. Parents and spectators are the group’s variable, and the meetings desk prices the room block on the 450 forecast alone.

The destination inventory

The venue publishes its host-city numbers on every page. 7,100 hotel rooms sit in downtown Indianapolis. 4,700 of them connect to the Convention Center by skywalk. 200 downtown restaurants sit within walking distance. Indianapolis International Airport is 15 minutes away.

A 450 forecast against those 4,700 skywalk rooms works out to 9.6 attendees per 100 rooms.

The Facility Guide names the walking route. The complex links directly to five downtown hotels by skywalk and connects to seven others through the Circle Centre shopping and entertainment complex. Its nearby-amenities section counts 4,717 of downtown’s 7,200 total hotel rooms on the pedestrian skywalk system.

Visit Indy publishes 12 connected hotels and 5,200 rooms on its connected-hotels page, and more than 9,400 hotel rooms downtown on its downtown page. Its meetings page carries 4,700 rooms on the skywalk. The three figures come from one publisher and move by page. Quote the number with the page.

Two publishers, two restaurant counts. The venue says 200 within walking distance and Visit Indy says over 300 downtown, alongside 50 major attractions.

Directions before services

The venue’s attendee pages carry the arrival layer. Denison Parking operates every Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium lot, and downtown holds more than 70,000 parking spaces. Spaces for persons with disabilities sit in surrounding lots on a first-come, first-served basis.

For air arrivals, the ground transportation center sits on the first floor of the Indianapolis International Airport Terminal Garage and links bus service, car rental, taxi, Uber and Lyft and hotel courtesy vehicles.

IndyGo runs the public bus service, with Open Door paratransit alongside it. The venue names the Maryland Street canopy as its recommended taxi drop-off point and warns that access can be restricted during certain events.

The skywalk system closes. The venue states its rule of thumb as approximately 11:00 p.m. lock-down and approximately 6:00 a.m. reopening, and describes the window as event-dependent.

The week around it

The venue’s event calendar lists no Center event between NCNMO Platform 26, which closes 28 December 2026 at a 2,000 forecast, and this 9 January date. That gap is 12 days.

The next Center booking on the same calendar is the Youth Rally and Mass Service at 1,500 on 20 January, 11 days later.

The compression arrives a fortnight on. The calendar carries the 2027 Central Zone Invitational at a 20,000 forecast for 23 to 24 January, alongside Circle of Stars Gymnastics Invitational at 5,000, RxHealing at 2,000, The Indianapolis Royal Weekend at 1,250 and Dot Foods at 2,000.

A second event lands on the Saturday itself. The calendar carries the Whitetail Film Tour at 300 in Wabash Ballroom 1-2 on 9 January.

What the desk takes from it

The file is one day, one hall and 450 forecast attendees. The venue’s own calendar places it inside a 12-day gap, and the next group of this kind arrives a fortnight later at 20,000.

Registration runs through the organiser’s own system at regchamp.com, reached from a team registration link on the event page. The event publishes no room block, no rate and no cut-off.

State the gap. State the inventory. The group buys a Saturday in a walkable downtown, and the published file holds nothing else.
