A MICE venue reports sustained carbon neutrality
GSTC reported on 24 September 2026 that its member SJM Resorts, S.A. announced on 17 September 2026 that Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau has become the first integrated MICE venue in Greater China to reach sustained carbon neutrality. GSTC said the venue reached that status through high-quality carbon credits. The company also launched Macau's first standardized Zero-Carbon MICE Service.
GSTC called the launch a step that strengthens the venue's sustainable events offering and supports Macau's MICE sector.
The two dates
SJM dated the announcement to 17 September 2026. GSTC published the item under its Members News category on 24 September 2026, seven days later. The pair form the dated record for both claims.
The venue
The venue is the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. The announcement describes it as an integrated MICE venue in Greater China.
The managing director on the disclosure requirement
Daisy Ho, managing director of SJM, tied the service to the data a client needs for its own reporting. "Sustainability is integral to SJM's business strategy, and we are committed to driving Macau's MICE industry forward, from green events to truly zero-carbon event delivery," she said.
Ho said the services give MICE clients "the measurable, verifiable and disclosure-ready environmental data they need to meet their sustainability objectives." She placed the offer inside Macau's position as "One Centre, One Platform," with carbon credits from Portuguese-speaking countries as a bridge for green industry collaboration.
The Green MICE Forum and the product launch
SJM hosted the SJM Green MICE Forum and Zero-Carbon MICE Product Launch. The forum brought together more than 150 industry leaders and sustainability experts. GSTC reported its subject as emerging opportunities in green events and the low-carbon economy.
At the forum, SJM signed a memorandum of understanding for end-to-end carbon-neutral collaboration with the Macau International Carbon Emission Exchange. GSTC described the agreement as a step in the development of a zero-carbon MICE ecosystem.
Keynote and market briefing
Zhang Jianyu, executive board director of the China Association for NGO Cooperation, delivered a keynote titled "The Multidimensional Value of the Green MICE Economy." Lei Xuejing, marketing director of the Macau International Carbon Emission Exchange, followed with the latest developments and applications in the global market for high-quality carbon credits.
The roundtable
The programme also carried a roundtable. The participants were Brian Ho, vice president of sustainability at SJM; Vincent Tse, vice president of the Macao Green and Low Carbon Industry Association; Rita Kuan, market strategy manager at the Global Sustainable Tourism Council; and Alvin Lee, head of supply at Puro earth.
GSTC reported the panel's subjects as ESG practices in the tourism and leisure sector, innovation in sustainable value creation, and cross-sector collaboration.
The council's read
Kuan, whose role sits at GSTC, read the launch as a step from commitment to delivery. "SJM's launch of Zero-Carbon MICE Services in Macao reflects the growing momentum across the tourism and events sector to move from sustainability commitments to meaningful implementation," she said.
She said the combination of measurable action, innovation and collaboration across the value chain "can help accelerate the transition toward more sustainable, resilient, and responsible tourism, while creating long-term value for destinations, businesses, communities, and visitors."
