Coaches at the OCC: What the Venue's Rules Mean for a School Group

The Oregon Convention Center garage excludes coaches, trucks with trailers and oversized vehicles, and bans overnight parking. Drop-off runs on NE Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and Holladay Street, in short-term zones on an accessible route.

The Oregon Convention Center publishes its parking terms, and the terms name the coach. The underground garage does not accommodate RVs, campers, trucks with trailers or similar oversized vehicles. It also prohibits overnight parking.

A school party arriving by coach drops at the kerb and parks elsewhere. The planner books that layover before the coach leaves the depot, and the layover address goes on the driver's sheet beside the drop street.

Where the drop happens

Short-term drop-off and pick-up zones sit on NE Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and on Holladay Street, adjacent to the centre. Every zone sits on an accessible route to an accessible entrance with vertical and horizontal clearance for the vehicle.

The venue adds a line a driver should hear twice. Not every zone has an unobstructed aisle beside the pull-up space, and the public sidewalk carries pedestrians and attendees.

The call rule follows from the term

The zones are short-term. A coach that arrives before the party is ready holds a live lane, so the call goes out once the group stands at the door.

Two tools carry that call. Collect the mobile number of every adult on the trip, or run the party on a group messaging list that reaches every phone at once.

The count to gather first

Ask the counsellor for the coach count and the adult count in one reply. A three-coach school and a one-coach school occupy the kerb differently, and the drop plan follows that count.

Cars that follow the coach

Parents driving separately use the 800-space garage at $15 for up to 18 hours, or the $15 to $25 dynamic event rate at the gate. The booths take cards and touchless payment only, and the venue runs cashless. Five hundred and sixty-six metered spaces sit within three blocks of the centre.

Arrival by transit

TriMet MAX light rail stops near the front door. The Portland Streetcar A Loop arrives at NE MLK and Hoyt every 15 minutes, and TriMet bus line 6 stops at NE MLK and Holladay beside the Holladay and MLK entrances.

Day two, same party

A group attending both days moves through the district twice. Set the second morning's drop against the door time, and keep the same drop street and layover address on the sheet.

The single page

Door time, drop street, layover address, the call rule and every adult's mobile number. Give the page to the lead teacher and the driver, and the district part of the trip runs without a phone call.
